2011 Community Care Day Survey

Volunteers came together in a big way for Community Care
Day. Over 300 volunteers participated at 40 project sites
giving the gift of time to local non-profits. "The value of
volunteer time on this single day is over $20, 000," said
Sherry Orlando, Executive Director.  "This day also
encourages people to get involved in their community.
Volunteers are needed and appreciated."

COMMUNITY CARE DAY… WHAT IS IT?

WHAT

Our annual Community Care Day is a volunteer event that mobilizes hundreds of people in our area to help those in need.  Participants assist local community service agencies, United Way funded organizations, schools, playgrounds and client homes in completing a variety of projects.

WHEN

September (Normal Schedule)

  • 7:45 a.m.   Breakfast Rally

  • 9:00 a.m.   Leave for project sites

  • 9:15 a.m.   Arrive at agencies and begin projects

  • 4:00 p.m.   Volunteer work complete

WHO

Students, individuals and employees from companies throughout Fairfield County complete projects.

WHY

Volunteers see first hand the needs in our community and how their efforts can have a positive impact on the lives of people in need.

WHY SHOULD WE PARTICIPATE?

  • Community Care Day is an opportunity to complete needed projects.
  • You may recruit new volunteers to meet the needs of your agency – often Community Care Day volunteers make a long-term commitment.
  • You will build relationships with local companies.
  • Your organization will feel special because someone cares enough give the gift of time.

HOW DO WE GET INVOLVED?

  • Mark your calendars for the next Community Care Day: September 2012

  • Read the attached information and make a commitment that your agency/organization will participate.

  • Volunteers download the Photo Liability Release and return it to the United Way office.

  • Photocopy this PACKET and distribute the information to your staff.

  • Dedicate a portion of a staff meeting to brainstorm creative projects.  Our United Way Staff would be more than happy to attend your meeting!
  • You may submit multiple projects, so long as you have someone who can direct each group of volunteers on Community Care Day.
  • The United Way staff is available to help you develop projects.  Just simply call the United Way office.

Please develop your projects now, as most of the Community Care Day preparation takes place during the summer.

For additional information contact Molly Neighbor at the United Wayoffice: 653-0643 or mneighbor@uwayfairfieldco.org.

COMMUNICATION FROM UNITED WAY

  • It is most helpful for the United Way to have one contact (Main Contact) at your organization.  It is also beneficial to have a project coordinator assigned to each project that you submit.  That way you will not have volunteers waiting around while your Main Contact instructs all of the volunteer groups about what they will be doing.
  • The United Way will send all information to the Main Contact.  The main contact should ten distribute the information to all Project Coordinators so that they know what to expect.

Project Coordinator (person coordinating a specific project) should speak directly with the Company Coordinators (people coordinating the volunteer team for their company) as Community Care Day approaches.  It is essential those volunteers know what to expect and that both parties are prepared.  Good communication leads to very successful projects!  Have fun!
