About the camp: Camp Shining Sun/Rainbow serves individuals with mental and physical challenges ranging in age from six to sixty-two. With operations funding from United Way, capital funding from the Knights of Columbus and run by the Family Y, the camp offers fantastic activities for campers. The campers have made wind chimes, magnets, and pet rocks just to name a few of the favorites. The campers also have enjoyed water balloon fights, Bingo and even a dance “Prom” during the summer. Perhaps the most exciting art project is tye-dye day when campers color everything from socks to sheets. Daily, the campers help to prepare the snack with ice cream sundaes and fruit pizza easily being the crowd favorites. Every Wednesday campers enjoy swimming at the Bremen Pool, a picnic lunch and playing on the playground. Speakers have included individuals from the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department, Hocking College Nursing Program and the Recovery Center. Undoubtedly, two of the summer's high points have included marching in the Sugar Grove Fourth of July Parade and the end of the summer “Fishin’ Fools” potluck for the campers and their families. |
