Child Advocacy Center $ 1,000

Forensic Training was provided to a team of professionals within Fairfield County. Plans are currently underway to develop a Child Advocacy Center in Fairfield County. The Center is a multi-disciplinary team made up of social workers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, mental health workers, doctors and nurses. A coordinated interview with the alleged child victim is the centerpiece of the multidisciplinary teamwork. Shielding sexually abused children from constantly reliving experiences is one of the benefits of a Child Advocacy Center.

The United Way of Fairfield County partnered with Jones, Cochenour & Company to provide free and fair tax preparation services for middle and low-income filers. Filers can file their income taxes on line and can apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit if eligible. The credit enjoys wide support because of its proven record in helping to reduce poverty, reward work, provide tax relief, stimulate the economy and meet basic expenses for working families.

The Ridgeview Before School program provides breakfast, academic intervention and opportunities to develop connectedness to school. The primary target is to reduce substance abuse given input from principals regarding drug activity. It is believed that the hour before school was the prime time for drug activity on campus. Students were referred to the program from administration, teachers or the student’s parents.

Violence, Abuse & Neglect- Education & Service Gap Identification $2,000
The Amazing Case: Close-up on Families at risk is an educational seminar scheduled for Thursday April 6, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. –12:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Community Church. The mission of this seminar is to promote collaboration among service providers and professionals serving at-risk children, families, and older adults in Fairfield County. A case scenario will be presented for panel and audience discussion to identify needs, gaps and measurable goals for the family in crisis. This session will be videotaped with training tapes available.

The United Way of Fairfield County has partnered with the Fairfield Foundation, ADAMHS Board, the Family Adult & Children’s First Council, and the Abuse Prevention Fund to conduct a community-wide needs assessment of service needs in Fairfield County.
Once community needs are determined, our planning team will gather to define a common vision for the community, identify strategies for implementing the vision, and develop a method for prioritizing needs, funding programs, and measuring potential outcomes.
Teen Screen at Pickerington Middle School $7,500

"One in five high school students is experiencing suicidal thoughts or ideation at any given time". New Horizons will implement a school-based screening program for adolescent depression, suicide risk and other related mental health disorders that pose a serious threat to health, well-being, safety and academic success. Parents provide consent for their child to complete a brief, self-administered mental health screen. Students who are at risk are referred to services.
