LIVE UNITED
I agreed to be United Way Campaign Chair for several reasons. First, United Way of Fairfield County has an ongoing commitment to address community concerns. United Way of Fairfield County is also dedicated to strengthening the long-term economic, educational, social and cultural health of our community.
Second, I have a personal motivation. My past involvement with United Way of Fairfield County provided me a first-hand look at the tremendous impact United Way has in the lives of so many people. I have seen United Way organizations working together to do what matters – responding to those in need. What better way for me personally to give back to this community than to be part of the leadership team for the United Way of Fairfield County.
As campaign chair, as President of Westerman Companies, and most importantly as a citizen of Fairfield County, I want to challenge you this year to become an active United Way partner in making our community an even better place to live and work. I know that you are already involved and contributing to our community in so many ways. But we all can do more. We can increase our involvement with United Way. We can increase our contributions.
Together, we can reach our $1.8 million goal. The effort and investment we put forth today will make a difference in how we live, how our neighbors live and how our children live tomorrow. Let’s all do our part; let’s all encourage others to do their part – to invest in United Way.
Sincerely,
Terry A. McGhee
2008 United Way Campaign Chair
Our Mission: Improving lives through the caring power of our community
Our Vision: We will focus our resources to achieve the greatest impact on community needs. We will accomplish our mission by convening, leading and challenging community partners to develop and support programs that improve quality of life. We will create long-term change by measuring results.
Community Impact: Here in Fairfield County, we're focused on critical issues such as helping children and youth succeed, family stability, health care, mental health and wellness and job development.
Our goal is long lasting change that prevents problems from happening in the first place. We realize that we may never prevent problems, however we are focused on building a community where everyone has opportunities and resources to reach their potential.
Too many families are walking along a financial tightrope, barely getting by, with no ability to save for college, a home, or retirement. We are working to transform that financial tightrope into solid ground by helping families learn the basics of budgeting, increase their income and start to set aside savings.
A
fire destroys a house in the middle of the night and the Red Cross is there, ready to provide comfort and assistance. A woman, sobbing and bruised, seeks shelter from her abuser at the Lighthouse. A dying woman lives the remaining months of her life with the support of Hospice. These, and countless other stories in 21 agencies happen every day in Fairfield County.
21 local agencies receive significant assistance from United Way of Fairfield County.
United Way receives its assistance from you.
